Title: Remember, 2019

Medium: Collage, paper

Concept: Remember is meant to provoke deeper scrutiny of the idea of American exceptionalism and American interventionism within other countries, specifically Guatemala. Throughout US History, America has used propaganda to further its own interests, and in the name of helping to establish justice, liberty, and equality, have often disregarded these very ideals in support of economic and political gain.

The quetzal is the Guatemalan national bird and a symbol in Aztecan and Mayan culture of goodness and light.

Title: Untitled, 2019
Medium:
Carved lino blocks, gouache

Concept: This block print is a continuation of Remember, utilizing elements of Guatemalan culture and colors reminiscent of traditional Mayan textiles, I cut motifs into lino blocks to create this pattern.
