A summer of mastery…
Title: Deconstructed Crane, 2020
Medium: Acrylic paint on bristol board
Concept: When I was very young, my grandmother taught me how to fold origami. I have fond memories of making origami animals, flowers and boxes. One of my favorite and most challenging pieces was the crane, because to fold it well, took both precision and skill which my young fingers lacked. But I persevered until I could fold a crane neatly. For this piece, I experimented with a cubist-inspired version of the crane. I used the familiar folds of the origami crane as my framework. I cut along the folding lines then reconstructed the pieces into a three dimensional abstract.

Title: The Micro vs. the Macro, 2020
Medium: Charcoal on paper
In this study in charcoal, I drew highly magnified versions of microorganisms and contrasted them with shrunken drawings of larger bone fragments and other fossils.
Title: Collage Series, 2019
Medium: Ink, white acrylic paint on paper
8 pcs each: 4.5” x 6”
Painting from direct observation with ink, the top row in this series is of four views of objects on my desk. The bottom row consists of these same objects in a collage interpretation made from paper painted with ink mixed with white acrylic paint to create gradations in grey.
Title: Rhode Island State House, 2019
Medium: Micron pen on acetate and ink on paper
Concept: During a summer attending classes at Risd, I would venture into Providence in the afternoons to paint. I painted the Statehouse over several afternoons and applied an acetate overlay to the piece to emphasize its structure.
